The AGM of the Cornwall Golf Union on Thursday 24th March saw St Austell GC history made when Centenary Captain Glyn Rowett was elected President of the Union.
Glyn, the first St Austell member to hold the office, became Vice President in 2014 and was present at Royal North Devon when Cornwall won their first English title. He takes over as President from West Cornwall’s David Inch.
On taking up office Glyn, who was also St Austell Captain in 1991, said “I am really looking forward to the next two years. We are a strong group with much experience of the game and now we must look to use this to continually benefit all of the golfers in the county”. He paid tribute to the work of David Inch over the preceding two years describing him as a proud Cornishman who had embraced the role and been a good ambassador for the county with much success, most notable being the County Final win in 2014. Glyn will be assisted during his two year term by the new Vice President Mike Ellis (Trevose).
The meeting also saw further St Austell GC members taking up offices within the union with Simon Harper elected Seniors Captain for a two year term while on the junior’s front Alan Lund was confirmed as CGU Juniors President where he will be assisted by another St Austell member Simon Ferguson-Smith as the Juniors Vice-President.
